2020 Ford Super Duty Takes Heavy-Duty Torque and Towing Crowns

2020 Ford Super Duty Owns Torque and towing CrownsFord

Ford announces power and tow ratings for the 2020 Super Duty lineup, which make it the mightiest heavy-duty pickup truck on the market.

Ford says the Super Duty's optional Power Stroke diesel engine now makes 475 horsepower and 1050 lb-ft of torque, which are tops in its class.

The updated Super Duty can also tow up to 37,000 pounds—1500 more than the heavy-duty Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.

Now that the 2020 Ford Super Duty makes more than 1000 lb-ft of torque and can tow nearly 19 tons, we only have one question: How powerful will heavy-duty pickup trucks be 10 years from now?

Likewise, the Super Duty, circa 2010, topped out at 24,600 pounds of maximum towing. The 2020 model now maxes out at 37,000 pounds of gooseneck towing. That's 1500 more than the strongest GM alternatives and 1900 more than the mightiest Ram. Ford also says the latest Super Duty boasts the highest conventional (24,200 pounds) and fifth-wheel (32,500 pounds) tow ratings.

Not satisfied with all these class-leading titles? Well, the 2020 Ford Super Duty can haul up to 7850 pounds of payload. Yup, that's more than the other heavy-duty pickup trucks. That weight capacity is rated for the standard gas-powered 6.2-liter V-8. However, a much bigger block is also available.

The 2020 Super Duty now features a 7.3-liter V-8 for those who want more power than the base engine but don't need the 6.7-liter Power Stroke. The largest engine in Ford's lineup pumps out 430 ponies and 475 lb-ft. In case you didn't already guess, that gives the Super Duty the most powerful gas-fed V-8 in its class.
