Walmart to open 18 health clinics in Texas including 10 in Dallas-Fort Worth

Walmart Health is expanding to Texas by opening 18 clinics in dallas-Fort Worth and Houston starting this month through fall.

The clinics offer several health services under one roof: primary care, including same-day appointments, dental, behavioral health, labs, X-rays, community health and telehealth.

The first two local clinics open on April 23 in DeSoto and April 24 in Fort Worth. Three Walmart Health clinics open this week in the Houston market.

The clinics are each about 5,400 square feet located inside Walmart Supercenters. Senior care annual checkups, dental cleaning and management of chronic conditions will be provided by board-certified professionals, Walmart said.

Since 2019, Walmart has opened 55 clinics in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri and Texas. Four smaller clinics that offer limited primary care services opened last year in Garland, Tyler, Palestine and Royse City.

Retailers have carved out spaces in their stores for optical centers for decades. More recently their pharmacies have become the main source of vaccinations. Costco and Sam’s offer hearing aid services. Now big chains are expanding into health care. Locally, Walgreens has its VillageMD clinics and CVS operates under its MinuteClinics brand.
