WV towing association wants to set rates based on inflation

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — The West Virginia Towing & Recovery Association wants to increase annual third-party towing rates to keep up with rising inflation costs.

The Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC) said in a press release Friday that it decided to begin a general investigation into whether to approve annual towing rates.

The Towing & Recovery Association filed a petition to increase rates based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rather than requiring the association to file yearly rate increase petitions back on Nov. 6, 2023.

The PSC said in the release that it uses a similar process for dealing with solid waste hauler rates.

On Friday, the PSC ordered that it was opening a general investigation into the feasibility of using the CPI to set towing rates.

Petitions to intervene, according to the PSC order, but be filed on or before 4 p.m. on May 17, 2024, initial comments by 4 p.m. on June 17, 2024 and reply comments by 4 p.m. on July 1, 2024.
