Update on Friday Evening Police Pursuit Involving Stolen Roadside Assistance Vehicle

Montgomery County Police has released additional information regarding a police pursuit that occurred on Friday, February 16:


According to police, “At approximately 5:37 p.m., MCPD officers assisted the Maryland State Police (MSP) with a stolen vehicle that came into Montgomery County. The vehicle became disabled and stopped in the 10700 block of Columbia Pike. The suspect has been arrested and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The media staging area is the 10700 block of Columbia Pike. The MCPD PIO is on the scene, MSP PIO is enroute. Sound will be provided once efforts have been coordinated.”

7:21pm Update: A police chase in that began in Beltsville, MD in Prince George’s County and involved a stolen roadside assistance truck, ended in the area of Burnt Mills Park in White Oak on Friday evening when the driver was taken into custody.

According to NBC4, a truck driver was responding to a call for assistance in Beltsville, MD when the vehicle was carjacked.  During the chase the suspect crashed into multiple vehicles, drove into oncoming traffic, and rammed a police cruiser.

The Montgomery County Department Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security tweeted the following at 7:00pm: “Police activity closes northbound Columbia Pike (US-29) at Burnt Mills Shopping Center Driveway. Additionally, two (2) left southbound lanes on Columbia Pike (US-29) at Burnt Mills Shopping Center Driveway are blocked. Expect significant delays. Seek alternate route. #MDTraffic“
