A suburb of Dallas, Texas, is celebrating Old Glory in a big way this Fourth of July. Ahead of Independence Day, folks in Irving, Texas, are lining the streets with a massive amount of American flags as part of the town's flag caper event."Our theme is we don't live in America. America lives in us," Nell Anne Hunt, who has been organizing Irving's flag caper event since 1992, told KTVT.Through July 3, people of all ages will be putting the flags in place. They hope to have 40,000 flags on display — lining streets in front of homes, businesses, and houses of worship — in celebration of the Fourth of July."We place flags all up and down MacArthur as a sign of unity for our city. We don't have a north or south Irving. We just have one big hometown of patriotism," Nell told KTVT's Dawn White. The display of flags is meant to celebrate the Fourth of July, but organizers want folks to think of a deeper meaning behind the red, white and blue star-spangled banners waving. "I hope people remember that a lot of people died for our flag," volunteer Toni Roten said."It's important to value our country. A lot of times people accentuate the negative parts of our country and instead of remembering this is the greatest country in the world," Nell said.Toni has been helping plant the flags for the past five years, according to KTVT."I hope it brings people together. When I've been planting flags before, I've had people from different countries stop me and ask me about it," Toni said.See more in the video player above.
