Fire at Dallas' CMC Recycling burns large plume of black smoke

dallas — Dallas fire crews responded to a structure fire at recycling facility on Saturday morning which left a large plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.

Dallas Fire-Rescue said units were assigned to a 911 call for the fire at approximately 9:13 a.m. Saturday, which burned at CMC Recycling, located at 1729 N. Westmoreland Rd. When firefighters got to the scene, they found a large plume of black smoke coming from a pile of scrap metal outside of the actual structure, DFR said.

Despite there being surrounding structures, DFR crews were able to contain the fire to the pile, the department added.

The fire had been knocked down significantly within a few hours, but they were still working as of mid-day Saturday to extinguish it completely, officials told WFAA.

There have been no injuries reported related to the fire, DFR said, and there is no information on the cause.

Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center, which is located across the street from CMC Recycling, posted on Facebook Saturday afternoon that it was closing intake until further notice and were working on evacuation plans if it became necessary.
