Arlington, Texas man sentenced to 55 years for fatal shooting

arlington, Texas — An Arlington man was sentenced to 55 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally shooting a man nearly three years ago, the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office announced.

On July 1, 2021, officials said Justin Milem, 41, got in a physical fight with 50-year-old Michael Henley at a Chevron gas station at N. Fielder and W. Randol Mill Road. After the fight, Milem followed Henley down the road and shot him, police said. 

When officers arrived at the 1700 block of W. Sanford Street they found Henley in the road with a gunshot wound to the chest. Henley was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A witness gave Milem's license plate to police which helped officers track him down to his house, which was half a mile from the gas station. 

Police said Milem refused to come out of the residence, prompting an hours-long standoff with SWAT. Eventually, he was taken into custody. Investigators found several guns, including assault rifles, and ammunition in his home.

"Thank you to the Arlington Police Department for your work on this case and for protecting our community," the Tarrant County DA said in a social media post.
