Bass Pro Shops opens fifth D-FW store in Grand Prairie

Bass Pro Shops opens a new store in grand prairie on Wednesday. The 100,000-square-foot store will be the 15th Texas location and fifth in the dallas area.

The company was founded in Missouri in 1972 and has nearly 200 retail stores in North America. Bass Pro Shops has operated in Texas since 1999 and sells outdoor gear and sporting goods. In 2017, they acquired Cabela’s, a Nebraska-based outdoor retailer. Bass Pro and Cabela’s have locations in Garland, Grapevine, Fort Worth and Allen.

Bass Pro will add around 130 jobs to Grand Prairie, according to Kyle Eggleston, the new store’s general manager.

“[The store] expands our ability to serve the needs of our passionate outdoorsmen and women in the region … [and] to deliver quality customer service to local outdoor enthusiasts,” Eggleston said.

The Grand Prairie store will be located at 3720 S. State Highway 161 next to the city’s EpicCentral entertainment district, near IKEA and next to the new Andretti Indoor Karting & Games and Topgolf locations.

The city expanded the entertainment district in 2021, constructing hotels, a convention center and restaurant space. The 172-acre park at George W. Bush Tollway and Arkansas Lane also has man-made lakes, a water park and a recreation center.

“Bass Pro fits into what we’re trying to accomplish there … a regional draw and a place where families can come,” Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen said. “Bass Pro is a regional draw.”

The store’s grand opening, an “Evening for Conservation,” is Wednesday, June 26 and is open to the public. The store will open for business the next day.

Dude Perfect, a sports and comedy group popular on YouTube, plans to be in attendance, according to a statement from the company. Professional fisher Larry Nixon and TV host Jimmy Houston are other guests. Other names in outdoor sports and bass-fishing plan to attend, including Roland Martin, Brian “Pigman” Quaca and Junie Quaca, Wade Middleton, Charlie Evans and Tommy Martin.

Country music artist Blaine Holcomb is slated to perform and characters from the PAW Patrol TV show will be at the event.
