Maddie Hayes and Madi Patterson scored for Marcus (13-6-4), which advances to the area round to face the winner of arlington Martin vs. Richardson Pearce. Goalkeeper Bry Russell, an Alabama State commit, secured the shutout.
Marcus won the Class 6A state title last season, its first since 2005 after finishing 26-1-1. This is coach Erin Hebert’s first official season as head coach after having the interim title removed shortly after the state championship game.
Allen’s only previous loss this season was to a team from the same city: Flower Mound. Despite reaching the state tournament four times in program history, Allen has never won it.
