Community mourns tow truck driver struck by vehicle | Journal-news

MARTINSBURG — Martinsburg’s community was left reeling after Kyle Stephens, a local tow truck driver, passed away on Friday morning.

Stephens was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle on I-81 on Wednesday night. Two days later, he succumbed to his injuries.

Many community members, colleagues and local organizations have expressed their condolences for Stephens, who was well-known and respected for his dedication to his work and his kindness towards others.

“Sheriff Blair and the members of the Sheriff’s Dept. would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Kyle Stephens, who passed away this morning. Kyle was a good man and he will be missed by many. We are praying for all those who knew him during this difficult time. We hope your happy memories give you peace and comfort in the coming days,” said a statement issued by the Sheriff’s Department on Friday.

“Local 5045 extends our deepest condolences to the Stephens family, Stephens Towing, all his friends, colleagues in the fire and LE community and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Kyle. Kyle transitioned to eternal life this morning. Rest Easy Brother, we’ve got it from here,” said a statement from Berkeley County Professional Firefigthers local 5045.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing.
