Dallas, Texas: When will power come back on in DFW?

So far Oncor has restored power to 340,000 customers, according to a press release. Oncor estimates power will be mostly restored by Friday.

dallas — Nearly exactly 24 hours after a large storm swept through North Texas, toppling power lines and knocking out power, Oncor announced it expects to have power mostly restored to customers by Friday.

Oncor teams have been out in the field since Tuesday morning working to restore power, Oncor said in a press release Wednesday morning. Now, the company expects to have power mostly restored in DFW by Friday evening. Harder hit areas are expected to be restored Saturday, according to the release.

"We recognize the hardships and inconveniences customers experience after severe storms like this one and remain focused on restoring power as quickly and safely as possible," Oncor said in the release. "Customers are encouraged check on neighbors and elderly or vulnerable residents and to seek alternate accommodations if their power is not on."

So far, Oncor has restored power to 340,000 customers. The storm caused significant damage to the Oncor system and led to 650,000 outages, the release states.

Oncor teams are working around the clock to restore power with the help of 5,000 additional personnel from nearby states, according to Oncor. If your meter base or weatherhead was damaged during the storm, you need to contact an electrician and get a city inspection before power can be restored, the release states.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said Tuesday that he anticipates a "multi-day power outage for a significant number of Oncor customers." He and several other county judges declared a disaster in their respective counties Tuesday.

To report a power outage or to check the status of an outage, download the MyOncor app, text OUT to 66267, or call 888-313-4747. Remember not to touch or approach downed power lines.
