Duncanville beats South Grand Prairie: Live score, updates of Texas high school girls state basketball championship (3/2/2024)

Two national powerhouses clash in the Texas high school Class 6A state girls basketball championship on Saturday.

South grand prairie (33-4) and Duncanville (32-3) both escaped the Class 6A state semifinals — the Panthers in overtime fashion — and will play for the title on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Alamodome in San Antonio. 

The game is being streamed live on the NFHS Network (subscription required).

South Grand Prairie beat Northside Brennan 53-42 and Duncanville prevailed over Humble Summer Creek in overtime, 39-31,  Duncanville is No. 13 and South Grand Prairie is No. 25 in the latest SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings. 

The Panthers are led by senior Mariah Clayton (12.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals per game), senior Cincinnati signee Chloe Mann (13.2 points, 3.6 assists, 2.4 steals per game) and junior guard Kaylinn Kemp.

-- Mariah Clayton has 10 points to lead all scorers — including hitting 2 of 3 attempts from 3 — and added seven boards for Duncanville, which has taken a lead via a second-chance layup by Clayton. (25-24, Duncanville | 5:15)

FIRST HALF

In a turnover-filled, low-shooting-percentage first half, South Grand Prairie held a slight edge on the scoreboard (16-11) but Duncanville dominated the offensive glass, nabbing 10 rebounds to SGP's three.

The game's leading scorer is Chloe Mann, who has just five points on two field goal attempts (3 of 4 at free throw line)

-- Duncanville will have its hands full with Taylor Barnes. The 6-foot guard finished Friday night's win over Brennan with 24 points and 12 rebounds. 

-- The Panthers are coming off of a one-year postseason ban for multiple rules violations and last won the 6A title in 2020. They also went back-to-back in 2016-17 and 2012-13
