Filing opens Jan. 17 for Mansfield ISD board, City Council

Filing for the Mansfield City Council and Mansfield ISD school board elections opens Jan. 17 and runs through Feb. 16. Elections will be held May 4.

All seats are for three-year terms.

On the Mansfield ISD school board, the Place 1 seat, currently held by Michelle Newsom, and the Place 2 seat, held by Desiree Thomas, are up for election this year.

To be eligible to run for the Mansfield ISD school board, candidates must be a United States citizen, be 18 years old by the first day of the term, not be mentally incapacitated, have not been convicted of a felony, reside in the school district for 12 months before the election and be registered to vote in the Mansfield ISD.

For the Mansfield City Council, three seats are up for election. Brent Newsom was elected in May 2023 to fulfill the final year of Mike Leyman’s three-year term at Place 3 after Leyman resigned in January 2023. Newsom had previously served on the City Council from November 2011 to January 2021.

Casey Lewis currently holds the Place 4 seat, after being elected to two three-year terms. Julie Short is in Place 5, a position she has held since May 2018.

To be eligible to run for the Mansfield City Council, candidates must be a resident of the City of Mansfield for at least 12 months and be a qualified voter in the State of Texas.
