CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Legislation passed this month in the House of Delegates would expedite the process for towing companies to reach motorists whose vehicles have been impounded.
Sponsored by Delegate Brooks (R-45), House Bill 5083 would amend West Virginia code would provide companies operating towing and recovery vehicles with access to driver registration information on demand to the end of minimizing fees associated with time between the impounding and recovery of vehicles.
“Pleased to get my bill that will help towing companies get in contact with vehicle owners quicker out of the House,” said Lead Sponsor, Delegate Brooks of the legislation. “This bill will help save money for those who have their vehicle towed.
The legislation has also received support from sponsors, Pritt (R-50), Gearheart (R-37), Kirby (R-44), Vance (R-35), Foggin (R-14), and passed through the House on Friday, February 8, 2024, after having been referred to the House Committee on Technology and Infrastructure.
HB 5083 would undergo an amendment from the clerk before seeing unanimous passage through the House. The action was communicated to the Senate, where last week it was referred to the Senate Committee on Technology and Infrastructure.
