Lion Soccer begins the spring with a pair of matches in Dallas

dallas The Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team began its spring season, playing a pair of halves on Saturday against Navarro College and Tyler Junior College, at the Washburne Soccer Complex on the campus of SMU.
SMU, A&M-Commerce, Navarro College, and Tyler Junior College grouped up to play a half against two teams each on Saturday. The Lions and the Mustangs play in Commerce on April 5.
The Lions play their first match at home of the spring on Friday at 5 p.m. against Texas Woman's
Coach Ashley Gordon said, "It was great to get back on the field and play another opponent. It was an opportunity to see our mid-year transfers and returners play together. We were pleased with the attacking opportunities we created and finished. We look forward to the continued growth of this team in the spring."
The first match for the Lions was against Navarro College, with the two teams playing for 45 minutes. A&M-Commerce got the 2-0 win. The first goal was headed in by Kristen Sueltz (The Colony), with an assist by Nia Chacon (Rowlett – Sachse) and the second goal of the match came from Hannah Bell (Duncanville) with Savannah Powell (arlington – Martin) adding the assist.

Bell broke-away, beating two defenders and scored on a pass from Powell.
The day closed out with 45 minutes of action between the Lions and Tyler JC, with the Lions winning 3-0. Powell scored the first goal on an assist from Mya Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn), with a breakaway allowing the Lions to score.
Mitchell scored the second goal of the match on assist from her sister, Nya Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn). Sueltz headed in her second goal of the day against the Apaches, scoring on a corner from Chacon.

Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn) played all 90 minutes in goal and did not surrender a goal in either half.
