Officers responded to arlington Memorial Hospital May 11 after medical staff contacted police about a child who appeared to have been assaulted.
grand prairie, Texas — A Grand Prairie man is facing charges in connection with the death of his 3-year-old stepchild earlier this month, police say. The child, believed to have been assaulted, died at a hospital May 15, officials say.
Solnifasint Nelson, 21, was initially arrested on a complaint of injury to a child causing bodily injury, but police said Friday that upgraded charges may be forthcoming.
Officers responded to Arlington Memorial Hospital around 8:30 a.m. May 11 after medical staff contacted police about a child who was taken to the emergency room with “what appeared to be injuries caused by an assault,” according to a news release. “Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was flown by air ambulance to Cook Childrens Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment.”
Police say the boy was pronounced dead of his injuries May 15.
Detectives determined the child had been assaulted at his home in the 1000 block of N. Highway 360 before he was taken to the hospital around 4:30 p.m. May 11.
Nelson was arrested on a complaint of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury or death and booked into the Tarrant County Jail May 11, jail records show.
