Man Dies After Dallas Police-Involved Shooting Following Aggravated Assault | North Texas

dallas, Texas — A man died after being shot by Dallas police officers during a disturbance involving an aggravated assault with a knife on June 28, 2024.

Dallas Police responded to the incident at approximately 6:45 p.m. in the area of 5850 Beltline Road. Upon arrival, officers found a man who had committed an aggravated assault family violence with a knife, according to a press release from the Dallas Police Department. The suspect and a woman were located inside a tent in a wooded area, with the suspect holding a knife.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect to drop the weapon. The woman exited the tent, and officers used less-lethal measures to gain compliance. However, the suspect advanced toward the officers with the knife, prompting them to fire, hitting him. The suspect was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and later died.

The woman involved was also taken to a local hospital for treatment but was not seriously injured. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of Community Police Oversight were notified and responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing and will be documented under case number 099549-2024.

Chief Garcia will hold a press conference on Monday to provide more information, and body-worn camera footage will be released.
