Mechanic: Mechanic crushed to death between PMPML e-bus and towing vehicle | Pune News

Pune: A 36-year-old mechanic was crushed to death between a PMPML e-bus and a towing vehicle at the busy Katraj Chowk around noon on Tuesday.The Bharati Vidyapeeth police identified the deceased as Ganesh Gujar from Sutardara in Kothrud. Senior police inspector Dashrath Patil of the Bharati Vidyapeeth policesaid, “A Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) bus heading towards the Katraj-Kondhwa bypass developed a technical snag. A towing bus was then pressed into service to remove it. Gujar fixed the chain hook to tow the bus, but the vehicle rolled down a slope and hit him. He got crushed between the two vehicles.” The police have booked the towing vehicle operator on the charge of causing death due to negligence under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Patil said.A PMPML official, choosing anonymity, told TOI, “The e-bus was coming from the Baner depot. It was going to Katraj from Hinjewadi. The driver took a break because it was noon time and parked the bus at a muddy spot near the Katraj bus terminus. The bus had completed a trip. When the driver tried to move the bus after the break, the vehicle didn’t start because its tyres got stuck in the mud.”The official added, “A towing bus belonging to a private contractor was called in to help. After the towing vehicle, which was a CNG bus, arrived, the mechanic was attempting to connect both the buses with the help of a rope or chain. The e-bus suddenly moved behind and hit him. The man fell between the two buses and suffered head injuries,” he said. The official informed, “Both the e-bus and towing bus belonged to private contractors and were not PMPML-owned vehicles.”
