North Texas baby born during solar eclipse named after sun

She's named Sol, the Spanish word for Sun. Even better, her sister's name is Luna.

mansfield, Texas — There couldn't be a more fitting name for a baby born during the solar eclipse in North Texas.

Sol Celeste Alvarez was born at 1:04 p.m. Monday at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center, just half an hour before the start of totality.

Sol is the Spanish word for sun.

She and her mother were discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.

Sol's birth came as a bit of a surprise for parents Carlos and Alicia Alvarez, because Sol decided to be born one week early.

Excitement around the eclipse didn't help as the Alvarez family ran into some pre-eclipse traffic on their way to the hospital.

Even more fitting is the fact that Sol's older sister is named Luna, the Spanish word for moon.

There was enough time after Sol's birth for the family to go view the totality themselves. Although, the birth of little Sol might just eclipse the celestial event.
