Phoenix Mercury's Sophie Cunningham encounters car towing fiasco on Wednesday

It hasn’t been an easy eight days for the Phoenix Mercury to say the least. Playing five games in eight days is grueling and tiring — and is even more draining when those games are all in different locations, on both sides of the country.

After a long week-plus, the Mercury finally got an opportunity to relax and recuperate for a few days. The team returned home on Wednesday, following an 18-point loss in Seattle a day prior. Mercury head coach Nate Tibbetts made Wednesday’s practice optional in an attempt to let his team recover, ahead of the Mercury’s game against the Lynx on Friday.

Wednesday and Thursday should’ve been less demanding for the Mercury, both physically and mentally. However, when Phoenix wing Sophie Cunningham returned home, she was greeted by an unexpected issue.

“If you’re wondering where I’m at, I got in at like 2 [a.m.], went to bed at like 2:45 last night, yeah I got my freaking car towed,” Cunningham said on a video posted to her Instagram story. “So I’m in the middle of bumf*** nowhere in — I don’t even know what part of Arizona. So if this is the last time you guys see me, it’s been fun.”

Fortunately, Cunningham was able to get her car back in a timely manner. Despite the frustrations, Cunningham managed to keep her sense of humor, documenting the entire ordeal for her followers and even cracked a few jokes.

“I did, I did,” Cunningham said when asked if she got her car back. “I need to move freaking [apartment] complexes, because what the heck.”

Controversy and exasperation aside, Cunningham made the most of this experience.

“It was a nice little drive,” Cunningham said. “Listening to some music with your windows down before it gets like 130 degrees.”

Long story short, if this says anything about Cunningham, it shows her willingness to make the most out of every second. Most people would feel a large sense of frustration in a moment like this, and Cunningham most likely did herself.

However, Cunningham saw an opportunity to spin this into a rather comedic ordeal — which says a lot about why she’s been a fan favorite in The Valley for years.
