We’ve all been there, walking to your car after working on Redstone Arsenal all day and you notice your car has a flat tire. Or maybe the engine won’t turn over in your truck on your way to work in the morning? What’s the fastest way to get a tow truck on Redstone Arsenal?  

Call Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Automotive Skills Center’s Affordable Wrecker Service.  

Their tow truck is back in service after a lengthy repair and ready to assist the Redstone community. All you have to do is call.  

“They just have to call,” Kate Kelly, manager of the Automotive Skills Center, said. “It is by appointment. And we have a limited crew. We try to do our tows on Thursdays and Fridays. 

“And if there’s an emergency, (the Automotive Skills Center) can squeeze them in between runs at that time, if we have availability.” 

The center can tow almost anything that Redstone workers might drive to work. “We can pull up to anything from small car up to a dually truck. But once we get bigger than that, say a minibus, that’s starting to get too big for us,” Kelly said.

“The ‘Go Anywhere Vehicle towing’ service is $55 for the tow. The first 10 miles is free,” she said. “If you’re right here in Huntsville it will only cost you $55, as long as you are within the 10 miles.

“But if we go any further than the 10 miles it’s a $2 loaded mile charge. So, say you were in Athens, and you needed a tow to Redstone’s Auto Skills Center it wouldn’t cost anything until we actually hooked up the vehicle. Then you get towed 10 miles for the $55 charge and an additional $2 for every mile over those 10 miles.” 

The tow truck is just another way to serve the Redstone community, Kelly said. “The goal is to have the wrecker service available to the Redstone community.”   

The tow truck can bring the vehicle to the Automotive Skills Center but can also go to other shops in the surrounding community.

“We like to book on Thursdays and Fridays,” Kelly said. “But if it’s an emergency, we can try to work that out if I have the coverage.” 

The wrecker service, being on post, will be faster than any tow truck off post.   

“We will be the fastest lift out there,” Kelly said.
