GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — Didn’t get “Kenough” of Slash on stage with Ryan Gosling performing “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars last week?
The Grammy-winning guitarist and songwriter is making a stop in North Texas in August as part of a recently announced summer tour, and ticket sales begin Friday.
Slash will stop at the Texas Trust CUTheatre in Grand Prairie on August 17. It’s the tour’s only Texas date.
The tour, called the S.E.R.P.E.N.T festival and touted as a “celebration of the Blues,” follows the announcement of Slash’s sixth solo album coming out May 17.
S.E.R.P.E.N.T is an anagram that stands for solidarity, engagement, restore, peace, equality, n’ tolerance, according to the tour announcement.
Slash formed the festival, he says, to celebrate the spirit of the Blues. A portion of the ticket proceeds will go to The Equal Justice Initiative, Know Your Rights Camp, The Greening Institute, and War Child Charities.
“The S.E.R.P.E.N.T. tour is a celebration of blues and rock ‘n’ roll music, and a celebration of unity and togetherness in these uncertain and divisive times,” Slash says. “S.E.R.P.E.N.T is a vehicle to help support and uplift people and communities suffering from the injustices of racism and equal rights violations, as well as to support children adversely affected by war and poverty across the world. So, we are contributing a portion of every ticket and VIP package sold from the tour to those ends.
The tour will kick off July 5 in Montana with stops in Los Angeles, Denver, Cincinnati, Toronto, New York City, Boston, Atlanta, and more cities before its last show in Grand Prairie.
The tour lineup includes the Warren Haynes Band, Keb’ ‘Mo, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Robert Randolph, Samantha Fish, Eric Gales, ZZ Ward, Jackie Venson and Larkin Poe. Jerome is from dallas and maintains strong Texas ties.
Slash will perform with his band, bassist Johnny Griparic, keyboardist Teddy “ZigZag” Andreadis, drummer Michael Jerome, and singer/guitarist Tash Neal, during all dates of the tour.
In Grand Prairie, he’ll perform with Ingram, Ward and Randolph.
Slash’s claim to fame as the lead guitarist of the band Guns ‘N Roses, with whom he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. He’s also played in Velvet Revolver and his own groups, Slash’s Snakepit and Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.
