Towing Vans: Action against vehicles in no-parking zones around Pimpri Chinchwad | Pune News

Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police will get towing vans soon to haul vehicles parked in no-parking zones. The state government on Thursday approved the demand of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate to implement towing vans. The work orders for the same were issued to a private firm. The police used to take the help of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to tow vehicles from no parking areas but the civic body’s contract for towing vans expired in June last year. Since then, there was no provision with police to tow vehicles parked in no-parking zones of the twin cities. The state government has now approved Pimpri Chinchwad police’s request to implement the towing van project on design, build, operate and maintain (DBOM) contract. A Nagpur-based firm, Vidarbha Infotech Private Limited, has already been awarded the contract, an official in the know said.A senior official of the traffic department of Pimpri Chinchwad police said that the traffic police were taking action against vehicles found parked in no-parking zones with drivers present inside. “However, due to absence of towing vans, there was no provision to haul vehicles, with no drivers ,parked in no-parking areas,” he said. “Imposing an online fine cannot solve the traffic congestion caused by vehicles parked in no-parking zones. The vehicle has to be removed from road but due to absence of towing vans, the traffic police were also helpless,” he said.“We have already declared many places across the city no-parking zones but due to absence of towing vans, we were facing difficulties in implementing our orders. However, now that we will soon have our own towing vans, we can clear vehicles parked in no-parking areas,” Vishal Gaikwad, DCP traffic, Pimpri Chinchwad police, said.
