Towing Vehicle Detached From Truck, Kills Woman In Anambra

A yet-to-be-identifed woman has been confirmed dead along the Asaba-Onitsha Road near Okpoko Market by the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command.

Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, the FRSC Sector Commander, said the unfortunate incident occurred in Awka, the state capital on Thursday, adding that the woman was hit while crossing the street.

He further explained that the accident involved a commercial tow vehicle with the plate number XA550BMA.

While expressing condolences to the family of the deceased, the sector commander urged motorists, particularly tow truck drivers, to act professionally.

“Eyewitness reports reaching us indicate that the truck was towing a vehicle at an uncontrollable speed along the axis.

“The vehicle that was being towed got detached from the tow truck.

“It hit and killed a female adult, who was said to be crossing the road while the tow truck continued its movement.

“FRSC rescue team came to the scene and took the woman to Toronto Hospital, Onitsha, where she was confirmed dead and her body deposited at the hospital’s mortuary,” he said.

He also advised the drivers to always utilize standard equipment and avoid speeding.
