VIDEO: Driver escapes tow truck set ablaze in York Region

Video surveillance shows two suspects wanted for arson that occurred early Thursday in plaza parking lot in Richmond Hill

A driver was able to escape a tow truck after it was set on fire early Thursday morning in a Richmond Hill plaza parking lot.

Officers responded to a report of a tow truck on fire at the plaza at Major Mackenzie Drive East and Leslie Street on March 7 at about 5 a.m.

The truck, which was engulfed in flames, was occupied, however, the driver was able to escape the vehicle without injury, York Regional Police said in a news release.

A truck parked next to it was also doused in a liquid but did not ignite. The fire quickly spread and caused damage to a nearby business, police said.

Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services extinguished the fire and no one was injured.

Video surveillance shows two suspects wearing dark clothing arriving in a blue, four-door sedan and then dousing the trucks with a liquid before lighting the fire.
