A woman is dead after she was struck by a tow truck while trying to cross Savannah Highway, according to Charleston police.
The collision occurred at about 10 p.m. May 26 when a woman and her companion attempted to cross Savannah Highway near Carrillo Street, just south of the Interstate 526 interchange. The two were staying at a nearby hotel, police said.
Both people crossed the highway and a tow truck traveling south struck the woman. She died at the scene.
The driver of the tow truck remained on the scene, police said.
The accident remains under investigation and police have not filed charges.
The incident raises the total number of fatal traffic-related collisions investigated by Charleston police to 6 this year.
