Woman injured after she ‘fell out of vehicle,’ police say

A 21-year-old woman was hospitalized after she was struck by at least one vehicle on Farm-to-Market Road 917 in mansfield early Sunday morning, police say.

The incident happened at about 1:14 a.m. Sunday in the 800 block of FM 917, Mansfield police said.

Police said the person who called 911, who identified herself as the victim's mother, told dispatch that her daughter "fell out of the vehicle" and was struck by another one. Police said the caller told dispatch she did not immediately stop because there were other cars behind her on the road.

The caller told dispatch she turned around, drove back to where her daughter fell out of the vehicle, and called 911, according to police.

When officers arrived, the 21-year-old was unconscious, but breathing, police said. No other vehicles stopped at the scene.

The victim, identified by her mother in a GoFundMe post as Sasha Smith, was taken by CareFlight to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Her mother, Sherryta Smith, told police she picked up her daughter because she may have been too intoxicated to drive home.

Police said no arrests were made in connection to the incident and that Smith was in stable condition by 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Mansfield police Ofc. Casey Knowles at [email protected].
